Cancun - a Traveller’s Paradise

Sunset Lagoon Hotel
A Honeymooner’s retreat? A family’s holiday? A traveller’s adventure? Cancun has it all. On the Caribbean coast of Mexico, Cancun truly exceeds expectations for all. With such variety and beauty, even a well-travelled tourist such as myself is in awe of the splendour of this magical place.

Arriving in Cancun, I had massive expectations for this so called ‘paradise’. I had seen the photos, researched the area and been told about the unbelievably pristine water. However, I was still not prepared for my first glimpse of the actual beach defining this tourist hotspot. A long stretch of snow white sand, creating one’s own piece of paradise between the flash hotels and water as clear as crystal. Growing up I always admired pictures of the turquoise blue waters, hoping one day to discover the tranquility of this myself. Water which is so clear you can still see every grain of sand between your toes as you wade out into the ocean, mesmerized by its colour and beauty. Not only had I found this in Cancun, but also a place where I could be adventurous, party, be immersed in culture, shop, be entertained and of course relax.

Drink by the Pool
The dining experiences included are a reason in itself to make Cancun's Sunset Hotels your next holiday destination. An extensive selection of buffet food, both intriguing to look at and tantalising for the tongue, is available at each resort for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The variety includes authentic Mexican cuisine, western, Asian and chef specialties. It is no exaggeration to say one could taste the flavours of the world in one sitting.

lazing on the Beach
Staying at the Sunset Lagoon Hotel, we were spoilt with choice as this hotel is part of 4 in the Sunset group, in which a free shuttle is provided between all 4 hotels in different locations along the hotel strip, providing ample offerings of pools, restaurants and facilities.

The hardest part about relaxing was deciding where to lay and bask in the sun! I rotated myself between the pool at sunset lagoon hotel, the hammocks by the lagoon, the beds and deck chairs on the beach at Sunset Beach Resort and their pool! With relaxing ocean sounds from one area to pumping music from the beach bar in another, everyone will find their own perfect haven.

With all food and drinks inclusive in the package deal, I expected it to be hard to find a waiter when you were ready to order. However the Sunset group has attained the perfect balance of availability with friendly waiters offering their service enough that one doesn't have to go searching, without being too intrusive and disturbing your relaxation.

Lobster Anyone?
For a classier dining experience, each guest is given a voucher for one Italian and one seafood lobster meal in the specialty restaurant at Sunset Lagoon Hotel. With these 4 course meals, no shortcuts are taken in quality, taste or presentation. Such immaculate dishes that truly satisfy anyone's taste buds, including sweet potato and asparagus soup, delicious salad, fresh lobster, risotto, lasagne, mousse, chocolate and brulee.

If one finds the energy to explore Cancun a little more and participate in activities, there is a vast range of encounters to choose from. Jet-skiing, para-sailing, dolphin swims, scuba diving, snorkeling, the list is endless and all are at ridiculously cheap prices compared to what we are used to in Australia!
