COFFS HARBOUR TO HOST TOUCH FOOTBALL WORLD CUP IN 2015

Coffs Harbour has been crowned the host city of the Touch Football World Cup, to be held in April -May, 2015.

“I’m delighted that the Touch Football World Cup will be making a welcome return to NSW in 2015 with Coffs Harbour named the host city,” Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser said.

“NSW last hosted this event in Sydney in 1999.”

“The NSW Government, through Destination NSW, works hard to secure major events for regional NSW and the Touch Football World Cup is a fantastic addition to the NSW Events Calendar.”

Australia has experienced great success in the Touch Football World Cup, with seven Open division titles since 1998.

Event organisers, Touch Football Australia, are expecting over 100 teams from up to 30 nations to take part in the Touch Football world’s flagship international event.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, said, “The Touch Football World Cup will bring some of the world’s elite touch footballers to Coffs Harbour.

“Twenty-six nations competed in the last World Cup in Edinburgh in 2012 and if you look at the growth of the sport around the world, we definitely expect more teams to come to NSW in 2015. Making this event the biggest and best ever.”

“Hosting the Touch Football World Cup in Coffs Harbour will not only benefit the local area but will have flow-on effects for the State economy, providing a great opportunity for those visiting the area to explore all that the region has to offer.”

“This is another great example of how NSW Government is working toward achieving the target of doubling overnight visitor expenditure in the State by 2020.”
