2013 Inter Dominion Carnival a Winner for NSW

The 2013 Inter Dominion Carnival has injected more than $10 million into the NSW economy, according to an independent report commissioned by Harness Racing Australia.

The report showed that the 2013 Inter Dominion also attracted over 10,000 visitor nights from intrastate, interstate and overseas visitors. The event also created 91 full-time equivalent jobs.

“The economic data from the 2013 race vindicates the Government’s decision to invest in the Inter Dominion until 2015. The event has already brought major benefits to the NSW economy. The racing industry is a leading employer in NSW and this is just another way we are supporting this sector,” the Minister for Tourism, Major Events and Racing, George Souris said.

“I am also pleased to launch the new Inter Dominion website as we begin the lead-up to the 2014 race. Tickets will go on sale soon, and I encourage all racing fans to get to Tabcorp Park Menangle for the Grand Final on Sunday 2 March to be a part of this great event.”

Member for Wollondilly, Jai Rowell, said: “What is most exciting about the next two years of the Inter Dominion at Tabcorp Park Menangle is that the state-of-the-art reconstruction of the venue will be completed. This includes a $28 million grandstand, which is truly a showpiece for the area and for the harness racing industry, and promises to make the event even more of a spectacle.”

Inter Dominion Event Committee Chairman, Gary Allen, was full of praise.

"The outstanding results highlighted in the economic impact report were matched by the oncourse excitement, experience and promotion of the event, confirming the value in the strategic decision to find a home for the event, which in turn builds investment and partnership benefits for the industry, State and local area.

"Rather than the Inter Dominion now moving on to a new destination, we return to Sydney in 2014 and 2015, confident of building on this success."

Harness Racing NSW Chairman, Graeme Campbell, said: “We are very proud of what we achieved in the first year of the Inter Dominion tender and I’m confident that we can build upon that in 2014 and 2015. It goes without saying that the support from Government and Destination NSW has taken the event to a new level.”
