GIANT TURTLE HURTLES INTO COCKLE BAY

A giant turtle has taken residence floating in Sydney’s Cockle Bay to celebrate a new underwater art exhibit.

The exhibit, Undersea Art Exhibition Sydney, is on show at the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium until 11 September. The collection of paintings, by abstract expressionist artist BJ Price, are inspired by the artist’s dives on the Great Barrier Reef. The monumental turtle sculpture, dubbed Alpha Turtle, is emblazoned with BJ’s black and white masterwork Alpha.

“The Alpha Turtle was a huge hit at the World First Undersea Art Exhibition in the Great Barrier Reef so I decided to bring him along to support our exhibition in Sydney,” BJ said.

“The Alpha Turtle brings the organic abstract style of my painting to everyone through wrapping a familiar shape - the shape of a sea turtle - in a complex design. As the giant Alpha Turtle floats upon the sea he opens people's minds to innovative and creative ways of thinking.”

BJ Price gained international attention as the first artist to curate an art exhibition on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef in 2013.
