Southern Ocean Lodge Named World's Fourth Top Hotel

Kangaroo Island's acclaimed Southern Ocean Lodge has been ranked as the fourth top hotel in the world in the prestigious Travel + Leisure 2014 World's Best Awards.

The luxury lodge was also named number one resort in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, the second time Southern Ocean Lodge has been bestowed with that title.

The rankings were announced by Travel + Leisure magazine and were celebrated at an award ceremony in New York on July 24.

Southern Ocean Lodge was given an overall ranking of 96.27, making it the only Australian property named in the top 100 hotels.

Baillie Lodges Managing Director James Baillie said the Travel + Leisure ranking was one of the most prestigious awards the lodge had received.

“Southern Ocean Lodge has received dozens of accolades since its opening in 2008 and we're delighted it continues to draw attention from around the world,” Mr Baillie said. “Travel + Leisure is one of the world's most respected travel magazines, so we're very proud it has chosen one of our lodges for this title.”

Perched dramatically on the cliffs of South Australia's Kangaroo Island, Southern Ocean Lodge has become one of Australia's most recognised luxury properties. Superbly designed by architect Max Pritchard, its 21 contemporary suites offer spectacular views of the coast and provide a luxe base from which to explore the island's pristine wilderness, renowned wildlife and superb food and wine.

Southern Ocean Lodge is the flagship property of the Baillie Lodges portfolio and a founding member of Luxury Lodges of Australia.
