Hoi An hosts silken rendezvous

Top craftsmen and women from seven silk villages in Viet Nam will participate in the Viet Nam Silk Culture Day at Hoi An City's Silk Village Centre on December 28.

The event, jointly organised by the Quang Nam Silk joint stock company and the Japanese Silk Craft Association, will feature the first and biggest performances and exhibition of crafts from several villages including Van Phuc, Phung Xa, Nha Xa in Ha Noi.

It will also showcase creations from Ma Chau and Tan Chau in Quang Nam, My Nghiep – a Cham craft village in Ninh Thuan – and silk production centres in Bao Loc district in the Central Highlands' Lam Dong province.

The series of performances will include a craft demonstration, announcement of the anniversary of the founder of the Quang Nam craft, a silk-made ao dai (long dress) fashion show and dance numbers performed by the Vietnamese and Cham people.

The event is being held to celebrate the 15th year since UNESCO recognised the World Cultural Heritage status of Hoi An, as well as to commemorate the history of handicraft villages.
