NEW ZEALAND INSPIRES LIMITED EDITION “WE ARE HANDSOME” SCARF

Australian designers We Are Handsome have designed a limited edition scarf that has captured the beauty of New Zealand’s Marlborough Sounds as a part of a new campaign to attract more Australian travellers to the region.

The We Are Handsome duo visited Marlborough as part of the joint venture campaign ‘Inspired Journeys’ created by Tourism New Zealand in partnership with Destination Marlborough and Positively Wellington Tourism*.

The scenery and landscapes of Marlborough influenced the design for the limited edition scarf, which will feature in the latest We Are Handsome collection. The scarf’s name ‘The Beacon’ was inspired by Marlborough’s magical sunset and means a source of light.

The designers, Jeremy and Katinka Somers said they absolutely loved New Zealand and jumped at the chance to inject some of Marlborough’s splendour into their latest summer range.

“We Are Handsome is an expression of all things beautiful in life and the wonder of travel is ingrained in everything we do. The Marlborough region presented such a huge palate for inspiration with its sweeping landscapes of the Sounds and memorable sunsets.

“The scarf is one of our favourite accessories we’ve created to date.”

Tourism New Zealand General Manager, Australia Tony Saunders says it’s exciting to align with renowned Australian designers to showcase the amazing range of experiences on offer in New Zealand.

“Wellington and Marlborough are known for incredible culinary and cultural experiences as well as unforgettable scenery.

“We are confident the collaboration will inspire Australians to make the journey across the Tasman to experience a New Zealand holiday.”

On their journey to Marlborough, Jeremy and Katinka visited Wellington’s oldest and most vibrant food market Harbourside Market - guided by inspirational local food writer Beth Brash. The pair then cruised with Interislander across Cook Strait to Marlborough, known as one of the world’s most scenic ferry journeys.

In Marlborough they met with Ben and Luc Cowley owners of Auntsfield Estate, who shared with them how Marlborough’s unique landscape and climate have motivated winemakers to create world-renowned wines.

They then explored the Marlborough Sounds, relaxed aboard the luxury launch Tarquin, spotted dolphins and sampled fresh local cuisine as the sunset. It was these moments that shaped the design of the scarf.

Available from Friday 27 November, the scarf will add to We Are Handsome’s vibrant summer 2015/2016 collection which is loved by celebrities Beyoncé, Diane Kruger and Rihanna.

Lightweight enough to pack in a handbag, yet big enough to wear as a wrap, the ‘The Beacon’ scarf is the perfect travel accessory for summer adventures across the Tasman.

Destination Marlborough General Manager Tracy Johnston said ‘The Beacon’ scarf is a brilliant reflection of the region.

“Jeremy and Katinka discovered how close and accessible everything really is here. From sampling some of Marlborough’s premier wines to matching this with fresh seafood while cruising the Marlborough Sounds – the perfect combination for an inspiring journey.”

The campaign is supported by travel packages to Marlborough through HelloWorld and Air New Zealand.
