Member for Albury Greg Aplin said the event will provide a unique opportunity to not only showcase the Albury region, but will allow the community to meet new people and compete in an inspired environment.
“This wonderful community event will provide a boost to the local visitor economy and is expected to attract more than 2,000 domestic and international overnight visitors,” Mr Aplin said.
“We look forward to working with Deaf Sport Australia on delivering a terrific event and showcasing all that our region has to offer to competitors and spectators.”
The Australian Deaf Games is the pinnacle of Deaf Sporting events in Australia, open to participants who are deaf, hard of hearing, hearing impaired or cochlear implantees.
“Albury is home to a great range of sporting facilities and is rich in natural beauty and outdoor activities,” Mr Aplin added.
“With its many different sporting competitions and a wide variety of events, the 2018 Games promises to be an incredible event that will showcase all that Albury has to offer.”
The 2018 Australian Deaf Games will be co-hosted by Albury and Wodonga, through a partnership with the Destination NSW, AlburyCity Council, City of Wodonga and the Victorian Government.
