Sydney And Regional NSW's Scene Stealing Locations

The diversity of Sydney and Regional NSW attracts visitors from around the world, as well as Hollywood Directors and renowned photographers, eager to capture its beauty. With award season upon us, go behind the scenes and take a trip to one of the set locations used in a movie or campaign shot right here in NSW.

Made famous through the lens, Destination NSW recommends visiting the following locations:

Broken Hill:

If Mad Max 2 and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert aren’t enough to pique your interest, then we’re almost certain Mission Impossible 2 and Last Cab to Darwin will. Many filmmakers head to Broken Hill to make movies, with the stark beauty and vast desert landscapes providing incredible filming opportunities. Create your own Outback adventure in this quirky mining town and get a taste of the wild beauty and romance of the Outback. A variety of 19th-century buildings can be found nearby in Silverton, just 25 kilometres north-west of Broken Hill. The town has attracted filmmakers for decades, with the circa 1880 Silverton Hotel and its surrounds being used in Australian productions such as Dirty Deeds and A Town Like Alice

Tamworth:

The natural beauty of the Tamworth region in Central NSW, with National Parks, spectacular views and charming country hospitality offered the perfect backdrop for Angelina Jolie’s 2014 directorial debut Unbroken. The critically acclaimed World War 2 film based on the life of Louis Zamperini was shot in Tanworth’s airport and King George V Avenue, as well as nearby small town Werris Creek. With a direct flight from Sydney, world-class festivals and natural attractions, why not head to the capital of country for a weekend bound to leave you wanting more

Snowy Mountains:
Hermès is a leading force in the fashion world, with the luxury high-end retailer offering apparel, handbags and accessories coveted around the world. It’s easy to see why the fashion house chose NSW’s Snowy Mountains as the location for their Spring/Summer 2016 advertising campaign, with the year round alpine paradise offering mountains, rivers and glacial lakes aplenty. The campaign, shot on location in Mount Kosciuszko National Park by Japanese photographer Yoshihiko Ueda, celebrates Hermès profound link to nature and the inspiration it draws from it. For movie buffs, have a moment channelling your own The Man from Snowy River moment on a horseback safari in Kosciuszko National Park

Sydney:

Romantic comedy unINDIAN, with Bollywood Director Anupam Sharma at the helm, was filmed exclusively in Sydney across 23 locations including the University of New South Wales in Randwick, netball courts in Pennant Hills and a warehouse apartment in the trendy, inner-city suburb of St Peters. Iconic Sydney Harbour was of course a star of the show, with the backdrops of the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and stunning foreshore.
