Australian Open Serves Up Record Demand for Melbourne's Most Cherished Grand Hotel, the Hotel Windsor

The Hotel Windsor expects the last half of January to be amongst its busiest ever, as Melbourne welcomes the Australian Open Tennis Championships 2017. Held from Monday, 16 January until Sunday, 29 January 2017, the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific brings the World's best tennis players to Melbourne.

The Hotel Windsor is experiencing high demand as always, and reports it was already holding 80 per cent average for the first week of the tournament back in December, with guests visiting from all over Australia and around the world.

Tennis Australia's independent economic study (undertaken by Repucom and Centre of Policy Studies) following the 2016 championships highlighted that visitors stayed an average 5.11 nights in Melbourne's hotel rooms, spending an average of $181 per day, providing a huge boost to the Victorian economy.

With the new grounds now extending to Birrarung Marr, The Hotel Windsor is in a prime CBD location and within short walking distance to action and entertainment on and off the court.

David Perry, The Hotel Windsor CEO, reflected: “2015 saw a record breaking 720,363 fans visit Melbourne to attend the championships, and we're expecting even larger numbers this year. It is an incredible time to be in the city and experience the atmosphere.”

Mr Perry continued, “We are seeing an ever-increasing demand from China ever since Li Na made a name for herself in Melbourne and the recent introduction of Xiamen Air and Beijing Capital Airlines non-stop flights to Melbourne, on top of the five existing Chinese carriers.”

The Hotel Windsor is Australia's most cherished grand hotel, and the hotel choice for many visiting the city for sporting events, located in close proximity to Melbourne's sports hub. The hotel is advising tennis enthusiasts to book quickly to secure accommodation for the final days of this year's tournament, with only a few rooms and suites left during the Australian Open.
