What's New in NSW

Blanca Bar and Dining
Autumn is off to a roaring start across Sydney and NSW with the arrival of new restaurants, new accommodation offerings and new experiences. Highlights include the opening of south coast brunch venue Long Time No Sea, new Aboriginal culture tour Wajaana Yaam Gumbaynggirr Adventure Tours in Coffs Harbour, and new dining destination Blanca Bar and Dining in Bondi.

New in food and wine

12-Micron is the impressive new restaurant, late-night dessert kitchen, and bar with harbour views at The Streets of Barangaroo. It is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, bar drinks and snacks, and dessert until late. The menu is divided into four parts: earth, which includes paperbark baked vegetables with fruit spice and goats curd among others; ocean, such as the lobster omelette or Skull Island king prawn steamed bun with wasabi, green mango and tobiko; land, including lamb with spinach, native iron bark honey and damper; and air, such as the half pigeon with Aussie master stock, red cabbage, and Illawarra plum.

Blanca Bar and Dining has opened its doors in Bondi Beach. Led by chefs and creators Tomi Björck (ex Quay and Longrain) and Samuel Cole (ex Quay, and Heston Bluementhal’s Dinner By Heston), the new dining destination is inspired by east meets west with Japanese and Mediterranean flavours.

Woollahra’s iconic public house and dining room, Hotel Centennial will launch a new weekend brunch offering. The menu is created by Executive Chef Justin North, and will feature the finest produce from local purveyors such as Infinity Bakery, Pepe Saya butter, eggs from Cornucopia biodynamic farm, and produce from the Hotel Centennial owner’s produce garden in the Hunter Valley.

Located on the beachfront on Marine Parade on the NSW North coast of Kingscliff, Taverna is a Greek-inspired modern restaurant. With just 60 seats and an ocean view, Taverna is the perfect spot for a long lunch, quiet dinner or beachside cocktail. The designed-to-share menu uses only the freshest produce from the local region. Every dish has been carefully constructed to take advantage of the best seasonal and Greek flavours.

Former NOMA chef, William Wade has opened a new brunch venue,  Long Time No Sea on the NSW’s south coast with a focus on local seafood and produce. The restaurant is located five minutes south of Bermagui on the hill at Cuttagee Beach Cottages and overlooks beautiful Barragga Bay.

Eat Merimbula 2017 is a one day market styled feast that will take place on the shores of Merimbula Lake on the NSW far south coast on 12 March from 10am – 2pm. The festival celebrates the creativity of local chefs, who create entrée-sized servings using the very best produce from the Sapphire Coast, and will feature local brewery and wineries.

The annual Burgundy Celebration returns this March, with a curated five day program of wine tastings, masterclasses, panel discussions and events dedicated to showcasing the very best of Burgundy wine.
