Hue to honor over 300 craft artisans in upcoming festival

Around 350 artisans nationwide will be honored at the 7th traditional craft villages of Hue in the central coast city of Hue in Thua Thien-Hue Province from April 28 to May 2, Sai Gon Giai Phong reports.

The festival with an aim to honor the essence of Vietnam’s craft villages will gather 350 knitting, weaving, handicraft, pottery, wood-work and jewelry artisans from Ha Noi, Hai Duong, HCMC, and Quang Nam. The event will also be attended by some sister cities of Hue, including Takayama, Saijo, and Shizouk of Japan and Dongnae District and Busan City of Korea.

Nguyen Dang Thanh, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City, said the festival will set up art spaces for artisans and craft villages for exhibition and trading purposes and exchange activities between local and international participants.

In the framework of the festival, there are ceremonies to pay tribute to the ancestors of craft villages and to promote the values of traditional craft villages of Viet Nam, and exhibitions of unique artifact collections and community activities.

Especially, on April 30, there will be an ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) festival. According to fashion designer Minh Hanh, the ao dai festival with its theme Art and Ao dai will unveil latest collections of Minh Hanh, Vu Viet Ha and Viet Bao at the stage which is set up at Truong Tien Bridge in Hue City. Other activities include a parade of 200 Hue students.
