Brisbane landmarks have “just passed go” on new edition of Monopoly

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has unveiled the Brisbane landmarks that have landed themselves prime positions on the official Brisbane Monopoly Board.

Twenty-two Brisbane and Greater Brisbane property landmarks have been selected to replace the famous London streets from the original board, following an invitation to the public earlier this year to offer up their suggestions via Facebook.

Not surprisingly, South Bank secured a coveted spot on the board replacing the iconic blue Mayfair, while the Story Bridge is also in the spotlight, replacing Park Lane and making for a dynamic duo.

Cr Quirk said the board also featured popular Brisbane properties and destinations such as Brisbane City Hall, Eagle Street Pier, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Players will also find themselves landing on familiar locations such as Fortitude Valley and the Queen Street Mall.

“With almost 7 million visitors per year it’s no wonder Brisbane has become a destination of choice. The board promotes the remarkable landmarks that stand out to locals and international visitors,” Cr Quirk said.

Coming into the warmer months it’s fitting that popular waterside locations include Portside Wharf, Manly Harbour Village and Riverlife, while indicative of Brisbane’s love for sports, Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba are sure to be favoured landing spots.

“The locations and buildings featured on the board serve as a reminder that our city has a lot to be proud of – I encourage everyone to discover or rediscover our world-class iconic landmarks and destinations,” Cr Quirk said.
